SUMMARY:Outdoor Leader Skills (OLS) for Boy Scout and Venturing leaders
DESCRIPTION:About the Course\nOutdoor Leader Skills (OLS) is an overnight hands-on training for Boy Scout and Venturing leaders. It covers outdoor camping skills (cooking\, knots\, woods tools\, etc.). Learn new skills\, reinforce old ones\, and build confidence to teach these skills to Scouts. For Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters\, this course is part of the requirements to earn the “Trained” patch. It’s also part of the requirements for adult leaders of a Venturing crew that runs an outdoor program. \n\nLogistical Details\n\nOctober 28-29\, 2017\nWrentham Developmental Center\, 131 Emerald St.\, Wrentham (map and directions)\nArrive between 8 and 8:15 AM on Saturday\, October 28. We’ll have you on your way home by noon on Sunday.\nWe will have an interfaith Scouts’ Own service on Sunday morning\, which is our traditional way of fulfilling religious obligations on the trail.\nFor more information\, contact the course director\, Ruth Mackie.\nIf you’re not able to participate for the full Saturday/Sunday course\, please sign up for our Friday/Saturday version of the course in the spring!\n\n\nRegister Online\nOnline registration is open! Please register online by Friday\, October 20. We require pre-registration so our volunteer training staff will have time to prepare supplies and purchase food for the headcount we have. No walk-ins. \nCourse fee: $20 for leaders registered in Mayflower Council; $30 for out-of-council leaders.* This fee covers the cost of Saturday lunch\, dinner\, and snack; Sunday breakfast; and training supplies. \n*Mayflower Council leaders get a discount because basic leader training costs are subsidized by an activity fee that all of our Scouts pay with their annual registration. \n\nWhat to Bring\n\nPersonal equipment list will be posted in September…\nMedical form (all participants must have Part A and Part B filled out)\n\nPlease contact the course director in advance if you have any special needs that we can help to accommodate (limited mobility; need electricity for CPAP; etc.).
