Roland ‘Papa Smurf’ Rugoletti Pavilion at Camp Resolute to be dedicated on Sunday, August 24th at 2pm

We invite all Scouts and Scouters to join the Rugoletti Family, Troop 2 Milford and the Mayflower Council as we celebrate the life of Roland ‘Papa Smurf’ Rugoletti.

Roland “Papa Smurf” Rugoletti was a longtime Scout leader in the Town of Milford who passed away in 2006. He left a lasting legacy in the Boy Scouts having mentored hundreds of young men, and volunteered countless hours to local and regional Scouting.

Roland’s influence and Scout spirit lives on. In his memory, the Rugoletti Family and Troop 2 of Milford constructed a pavilion at Camp Resolute where Roland spent countless days and overnights as a summer camp leader, trainer, and council volunteer.

Among his Scouting accolades, Roland earned the Silver Beaver Award and St. George Emblem. In 2011, the Mayflower Council awarded him, in memorium, the Life of Service Award.

A testament to Roland’s positive influence on the Scouts he served, one day he was called out on a Boston-based radio station as one former Scout’s “favorite teacher.” The Scout stated that it was his “Scoutmaster, Roland Rugoletti,” who “changed his life.”

Outside of Scouting, Roland was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a veteran of the United States Army, an Ordained Deacon in the Catholic Church, and widely recognized for his service to youth.

The Roland “Papa Smurf” Rugoletti Memorial Pavilion will serve as a lasting reminder of Roland’s impact in the Boy Scouting program, and also provide a place for Scouts and units to gather, learn, and have fun.

Refreshments will be served along with Papa Smurf’s famous camp donuts. Please RSVP by Clicking Here
